RESERVOIR MANAGEMENT Course

The purpose of reservoir management is to control operations to obtain the maximum possible economic recovery from a reservoir on the basis of facts, information and knowledge.

This course gives you a better understanding of well andreservoir management and provides best practice how to develop and deplete resources in a manner by maximizingbenefits, advantages and economic recovery while minimizing waste and optimizing the process using current technology.

Course Duration: [5days/ 6,5 -7 hours/day]

Level: Foundation

AUDIENCE

A reservoir engineer, petroleum engineer or a geoscientist responsible for the day-to-day management
of reservoirs
to improve their performance.

Basic understanding of reservoir engineering and reservoir operationsare required.

TEACHING METHODS

In-classroom, virtual

Material on paper and slides

Theoretical method supported by practical exercises

THE BENEFITS FROM ATTENDING

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • gain insights into reservoir characterization, simulation, and modelling, leading to improve decision-making in reservoir development and production.

  • gain technical knowledge and improved reservoir performance to cost reductionandrisk mitigation

  • attending a course allows professionals to develop cross-disciplinary skills and foster better teamwork within organizations.

TOPICS

  • Understand the various disciplines that contribute to the reservoir management process.

  • Understand the reservoir management processes

  • Understand and manage reservoir uncertainties throughout phases of field maturity;

  • Identify the geologic and reservoir parameters that have an impact in the reservoir development and management

  • Conduct analysisto determine the most valuable technique to achieve a higher recovery factor

  • Apply the appropriate well architecture(s) or combination of well architectures to match the combined geology and reservoir drive mechanismin cost-benefit manner

  • Adjustthe reservoir management plan for each new phase of field life

DAILY AGENDA

Day 1:

Reservoir Management:Concepts and Processes

  • Reservoir management processand concepts

  • Sources of expertise, data acquisition, and data use

  • Data analysisintegration and reservoir models

The first day will focus mainly on the reservoir management process, concepts, sources of expertise, data acquisition and data use in respect to reservoir management. The cycle integration, analysis and modellingof a reservoir will also be covered. The day will end with a discussion of data analysisandreservoir models.3

Day 2:

  • Integrated Reservoir Model

  • Role of reservoir model

  • Reservoir management economics

Participants will learn about the reservoir model, specifically the dynamic well and reservoir models, and how to extract the most valuable results. Minimise capex, opex and risk and understand how timing can affect the value and investment decisionwill also the discussed.

Day 3:

  • Evaluate and Improve Recovery Processes

  • Understandthe mostwidely used post-primary recovery method

  • Understand the enhanced oil recovery processes

Participants will learn how to improve recovery by applying water injection, secondly, they will learn about enhancing oil production by taking into consideration the type of reservoir, the oil characteristics and the cost-benefit involved

Day 4:

Reservoir Management Planand Guidelines

  • Mature versus green fields

  • Reservoir Surveillance: production logging, pressure profile and saturation monitoring

  • Reservoir Optimization

Understand the reservoir for life through reservoir waterflood surveillance plans short term and mid-long term

Day 5:

Reservoir Management Application

  • Case Studies: new field, waterflood, mature field

Analysis, discussions and consolidation of the subjects learnt applied to different examples
